They're Baa-aack

The southern migration has begun. I’ve already seen a few snowbirds. The majority will probably wait until after the election. The “season” is from November through April. By Easter they’re all gone.

This season will be interesting in a couple of ways. Will the economy have an effect? Probably not for the folks who own a second home here. Will gas prices deter the ones who bring a motorhome down? Will climate change make a difference?

There usually are many Canadians. Will they stay up North in this political climate?

Some of us have mixed feelings about these seasonal residents.  The good news is that they boost the local economy. Stores and restaurants may rely on them to make a profit, and sometimes even to be able to break even. The downside is increased traffic. Getting around is sometimes awkward for visitors leading to hesitation while navigating. Supermarket parking lots are full before 9 a.m.

We make the adjustments in the Fall and breathe a sigh of relief in the Spring.

Vote for ME!!!

Across the country mailboxes are being filled with politicians’ campaign ads. They don’t look cheap. Full color glossy card stock to try to convince voters how to choose. Most say ‘Vote For Me’, while some say ‘DON’T Vote for my Opponent’. It would be interesting to know how much is spent on these ads – especially at the local level.  Does a city councilman earn enough to justify the campaign cost? Or is it an investment for the future and a run for a more prestigious position?

Do you suppose that any of these  flyers will cause a person to change their vote? Hmm, his smile looks genuine and honest.  Her eyes look thoughtful and focused. I don’t like bald heads, bright red lipstick, the clothes they wear. How many people take time to actually learn something about the candidates?

I’m thankful for recycling so all those trees won’t have died in vain.

BUT WAIT!!!   THERE’S MORE!!!

This is just the beginning. In November we’ll be flooded with Thanksgiving and Christmas advertising. There seem to be very few retailers who don’t send a catalog or at least a flyer of some sort. More paper to toss. Although there will be plenty of post-Christmas sales ads, it will be a relief to see January arrive.

Frustration vs. Anger

Right now, I am choosing frustration. My project to find where Albert Filek lived in Czechia in the mid 1800's is proving a great challenge. With very little information, the search, at times, is very frustrating.

But, this project keeps me busy and keeps my mind active and I definitely prefer that to reading and hearing about our government officials.

Anger comes when I do hear and read about the latest pronouncements from Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth and RFK, Jr..  These people come up with the most ridiculous statements and actions. Sometimes It’s hard to fathom that they actually believe what they say.

I will not post a rant here. I’m just glad to have something to keep me away from the news reports and FaceBook postings that make me want to rant.

Well, back to Bohemian genealogy. It’s worth the frustration.

New Blog

I’ve started a new blog to follow my adventures trying to find Filek family in Bohemia.

This one will still keep going but I want to keep the research information separate from my Random Thoughts
